Surge protection for building installations, power distribution systems, photovoltaic installations, and EV charging infrastructure
Garching, 14 October 2026 – Photovoltaic (PV) systems, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, and increasingly connected building technologies are changing the requirements for electrical installations. Different power supply systems, AC and DC applications, and limited installation space in distribution boards and equipment call for surge protection solutions tailored to specific installation conditions. At GET NORD 2026, taking place from November 19 to 21 in Hamburg, Raycap will showcase its comprehensive portfolio for protecting modern building and energy infrastructure in Hall B5, Booth 232.
As an international specialist in lightning and surge protection, Raycap will present proven solutions for low-voltage power distribution, photovoltaic installations, and AC and DC charging infrastructure. The focus will be on selecting appropriate surge protective devices (SPDs), integrating them into different installation environments, and simplifying installation.
Buildings and Power Distribution: Surge protection tailored to the installation
Whether for new construction, modernization, or retrofitting, selecting suitable surge protective devices requires consideration of the earthing system, the existing lightning protection concept, the installation location, and the coordination of protective devices. Available space and installation effort are also important practical factors.
Raycap’s low-voltage portfolio includes Type 1, Type 2, and combined surge protective devices, with solutions for both DIN rail mounting and busbar systems.
The ProTec 60 RX series provides surge protection for conventional and insulated 60 mm busbar systems. The devices are designed for busbar widths from 12 to 30 mm and thicknesses of 5 and 10 mm. The portfolio includes ProTec 60 RX T1, T1H, and T2 versions, as well as the T2F variant with integrated backup protection. Direct mounting onto the busbar enables space-saving integration into power distribution systems while reducing wiring requirements.
For applications at the building’s electrical service entrance, Raycap offers the ProBloc T1SG series. These combined Type 1+2+3 surge protective devices use single-cell spark gap (ScSG) technology to limit power follow currents effectively. Their leakage-current-free design also allows installation in the pre-meter area, subject to appropriate device selection and installation in accordance with VDE-AR-N 4100.
The portfolio is complemented by additional SPDs for different power supply and installation requirements, as well as the ProTec T2 DCB and DCU series for DC applications, including industrial DC networks and specialized power supply circuits.
Photovoltaics: Protection for inverters and electrical installations
Photovoltaic installations require surge protective devices to be selected and positioned according to the system configuration. Key considerations include the maximum DC system voltage, inverter configuration, cable routing, and whether an external lightning protection system is in place.
Raycap offers surge protection solutions for both the AC and DC sides of PV installations across a wide range of system sizes.
These include preassembled ProTec PV Boxes for DC-side inverter protection. Depending on the version, different maximum power point tracker (MPPT) and connection configurations are available to meet specific protection requirements. Versions with preassembled plug-in connections, including MC4 connectors, facilitate integration into PV installations and reduce installation effort.
The range also includes DIN rail-mounted surge protective devices and additional protection solutions for commercial and industrial PV installations. This enables Raycap to support coordinated protection concepts extending from PV generator circuits and inverters to AC-side power distribution.
E-Mobility: Surge protection for AC wallboxes and DC fast charging systems
The expansion of electric mobility creates different surge protection requirements. While available installation space is often a key consideration for compact AC charging points, high-power DC fast charging systems require particular attention to DC operating conditions and system architecture.
For AC charging equipment, Raycap offers the ProBloc EV T2 V, a compact Type 2+3 surge protective device. At just 35 mm wide, the device requires minimal installation space. Its V-wiring configuration and DIN rail or mounting plate installation options support flexible integration into different charging systems.
For high-power DC fast charging applications, Raycap offers a range of surge protection solutions. The Strikesorb 35 series complements the portfolio with surge protection technology for demanding DC applications.
The ProTec T2 DCGU 3Y is a pluggable Type 2 surge protective device designed for the DC side of fast charging systems. Developed in accordance with IEC 61643-41:2025, it is designed for DC electric vehicle charging applications according to IEC 61851-23:2023. Versions for applications up to 1.000 V and 1.500 V DC enable integration into different charging infrastructures, including CCS and MCS applications.
Together, these technologies address the surge protection requirements of modern charging infrastructure, from AC wallboxes and public DC fast charging stations to charging systems for electric commercial vehicles.
A coordinated protection concept for the entire electrical infrastructure
As buildings become increasingly electrified, different energy and application systems are being integrated into the same electrical infrastructure. Effective surge protection must therefore consider not only individual devices but also how they are incorporated into the overall electrical installation.
Key factors include selecting suitable SPDs, matching them to the earthing system, system voltage, and installation conditions, and ensuring proper coordination throughout the installation.
With its comprehensive portfolio, Raycap brings together different surge protection technologies and device configurations for modern building and energy infrastructure. Alongside protection performance, the focus is on straightforward integration, installation-friendly designs, and support for the reliable operation of electrical systems
